The Design Academy (DAE) is opening a design
shop in Eindhoven. My assignment was to design an
opening procession from the DAE to the Design Shop.
I wanted to promote an image of design in the
procession itself. The people in the procession are
carrying umbrellas with the map of Eindhoven
printed on the inside. The maps will only works
as umbrellas in a procession with two or more
people, because they need to be attached to each
other to stay up.
Instead of using images of monuments as orientation
on the map, the monuments of Eindhoven are used to
block the most obvious way, and a new way has
to be found. The participant gets to experience the design
process in the form of a walk: searching for new and
unconventional solutions.

L’Académie de Design d’Eindhoven a ouvert un
magasin de design à Eindhoven. Mon rôle fut de
dessiner un cortège d’ouverture de l’Académie
jusqu’au magasin.
Je voulais promouvoir une image du design dans
le cortège lui-même. Les figurants portent des
parapluies dans lesquels est dessinée une carte
d’Eindhoven. Les cartes fonctionnent uniquement
comme parapluie avec deux ou plus de personnes
dans le cortège car elles ont besoin d’être
attachées les unes aux autres pour rester
en l’air.
Au lieu d’utiliser des images de monuments d’Eindhoven
comme points de repère sur la carte, ils le sont pour
bloquer le chemin le plus évident, une alternative
devant être trouvée. Le participant expérimente dès
lors le processus de design sous la forme d’une
balade: chercher des solutions innovantes et
anticonformistes.
